drunk driving

My first false accusation of drunk driving (I don’t drink, duh!):

One night after dropping by at a party, I was pulled over by a cop after 1 minute of leaving the house.  It was about 2am and I was just going home after visiting some friends.  The cop thought I was driving drunk because for the first few seconds of pulling out from the sidewalk, my lights weren’t on.  (My lights on the car turn on automatically after it senses it’s dark after 10 seconds.)

I was nervous to see the cop trailing right behind me when I turned left onto Dwight, only a block away from my house.  To my fear, he turned on his flashers and pulled me aside.

I rolled down the window and he started flashing his Maglite at my face trying to check for redness and asked, “Do you know what I’m pulling you over for?”

“I really have no idea.” I responded.

The cop starts to get nervous as he realizes that I am not at all intoxicated and starts to make excuses as to why there’s a reason to pull me over.  ”Well… for the first few seconds as you pulled onto the street, your tail lights weren’t on.”

“Oh wait, are they broken?” I said

“No, they are on now, but they weren’t before.  And your little light on your license plate is broken.”

At this point, I realized he was now just making excuses to keep me there and just to make sure I wasn’t drinking.  He continues to ask: “Where are you going?  Where did you come from?” And then the question finally came, “how much did you have to drink tonight?”

I responded, “I didn’t drink anything, I swear, you can give me a test or something because I don’t drink.”

At this point, he starts getting nervous and talks into his little walkie-talkie with blurbs of “10-4” or “copy.”  He flashes his light back and forth from my face again, stands there and thinks for an awkward couple of seconds and finally says, “Ok, you drive safely now,” and walks back to his car.  Phew.

When he pulled me over, I had a feeling he thought he could bust me for drunk driving but instead, he just wasted time pulling over a completely sober person just trying to get home and sleep. :X

Future Construction

Not really a New Years resolution, but thinking about how a new year is rolling by, I’m just thinking about some things that may happen in the (near) future:

  1. Completion of the 4th Caldecott Tunnel
  2. Completion of the new Bay Bridge
  3. The high speed rail that goes from SF to LA

That is all.
